Egypt, Jordan agree on resuming gas supply

Egypt and Jordan agreed to resume Egypt's natural gas supply to Jordan according to a daily program, Jordan's Energy and Mineral Resources said.

Khalid Irani has just wrapped up his talks with Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi in Cairo on expanding bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas domain.

Irani said he agreed with Fahmi on resuming gas supply to Jordan gradually to reach its normal rates starting from Thursday till the end of 2010.

The Jordanian minister said Fahmi will visit Jordan within the coming two weeks to reach a gas supply deal to be active as of early 2011.

The meeting was attended by Jordan's Ambassador to Egypt Hani al-Molki. Discussions between both sides covered potential investments in new natural gas projects after the success of Egyptian oil companies in obtaining a tender to stretch gas distribution networks to households and industrial areas in the Jordanian kingdom.

Fahmi highlighted the full coordination between the two countries in the establishment of joint major projects citing the example of the Arab gas pipeline project.
