A training is being held in Cairo this weekend to challenge consumerist lifestyles in the Mediterranean and inspire responsible consumption, in an event financed by the Anna Lindh Foundation.

The training – under the “Youth X Change in the Mediterranean” project – is addressed to all those involved with education and youth issues, such as primary and secondary level teachers, youth leaders, staff of museums and NGOs carrying out educational programmes.

The 9-10 October event, financed by the Anna Lindh Foundation in the framework of its Call for Proposal, is organised by the Arab Office for Youth & Environment in collaboration with the Mediterranean Information Office for Environment, Culture and Sustainable Development.

Youth X Change is a worldwide UNESCO/UNEP initiative that addresses production and consumption patterns, particularly of young people. Part of this initiative is an 84-page guidebook that has been translated in 19 languages. Youth X Change in the Mediterranean is a project aiming for the Mediterranean adaptation of the global initiative. Specifically the project has adjusted the guidebook to the realities and lifestyles of the region and translated it into Arabic.

The Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures is a €7 million EU-funded project which aims at bringing people and organisations of the region closer and promoting dialogue, by offering them opportunities to work together on projects in the fields of culture, education, science, human rights, sustainable development, the empowerment of women and the arts. The Foundation is the first institution to be jointly created and co-financed by all member countries of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.
