Egyptian President calls for boosting Afro-Arab partnership
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stressed on the importance of beefing up Afro-Arab partnership ties, reports Global Arab Network.

This should take place under the umbrella of the African Union and the Arab League so as to support Arab and African causes at regional and international forums and to realize common interests and gain mutual benefits, he said in his address before the second Arab-African summit which opened in Sirte, Libya today.

Egypt will be doing its utmost to promote Arab-African ties, the Egyptian leader promised.

Egypt has always been a bridge that connects between the Arab and African worlds and will always remain faithful to its Arab and African identity which qualified it to host the first Arab summit, the first African summit and the first Afro-Arab summit, he said.

The crises and challenges facing Africa and the Arab world require reactivating the mechanisms and structural institutions that were established during the 1977 Cairo summit, he said. They also call for coordination of stances and increased cooperation on the international arena, he added.

He praised the joint efforts of the AU and AL to contain disputes and conflicts taking place on Arab African lands.

The Palestinian cause has been and will always be a living example of how Afro-Arab solidarity should be like, Mubarak said.

Arabs are grateful to Africa which has remained adamant in its supportive stand of the Palestinian and Arab rights and in its backing of the Palestinian people and their just cause and legitimate rights, including their right to get rid of occupation and establish their own independent state with East Quds as its capital, he said.
