Nour – London hosts first festival of arts from the Middle East and North Africa

The brand new "Nour Festival of Arts" at Leighton House Museum in Holland Park is London's first-ever festival devoted to the arts of the Middle East and North Africa, reports Global Arab Network.

This is an interesting and long overdue initiative for London by the Museum staff and officials from the London Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, who are hosting the event.

The fact that no festival of its kind - incorporating film, exhibitions, concerts, literary debates, symposia, comedy and more - has ever taken place in London to represent culture from the region was the motivation for hosting the event, the Festival organiser Alan Kirwan says.

Running from October until 12 December 2010, the Nour Festival includes exhibitions by the Iranian multi-media artist Parastou Forouhar and the Nubian Painter Fathi Hassan,
Comedy with Shazia Mirza,
Concerts by Reem Kelani,
Fusion music by cult figures like Marques Toliver and the Rhian Duo,
Literary debates,
Lebanese cookery demonstrations by Anissa Helou,
And film screenings of classic Egyptian and Sudanese cinema and much more.
