Kuwait Television troupe opens a GCC cultural workshop in Britain with a folkloric soiree on Monday, the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the UK said .

Khaled Al-Duwaisan, also the dean of the foreign diplomatic corps, said in a statement to KUNA the workshop, "GCC Days in the UK," would involve several British institutions and authorities, including Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

Elaborating, the ambassador said Kuwait, as chairman of the current GCC session, planned several meetings between British and GCC officials within the framework of the activities. Eight British government secretaries would meet the GCC Secretary General, Abdul Rahman Al-Attiah, in this respect, he added.

A number of eminent Kuwaiti academic and cultural figures will participate in the workshop, Al-Duwaisan said, adding a seminar, themed the economic and commercial cooperation between the GCC and the UK, would be held on Tuesday.

Among the most prominent Kuwaiti personalities to be present at the planned event would be Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, the Deputy Managing Director for Legal Affairs of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC).

He would be involved in debates about energy affairs. Al-Attiah, for his part, would address a seminar on GCC-British economic cooperation, to be held at Catham House on Wednesday. He, along with other eminent figures, would take part in another seminar, due at SOAS, on the last day of the week-long workshop.

London was chosen for the GCC Days festival, an event aimed at promoting the GCC member states' ties with Europe, said a statement by GCC council.

The GCC Secretariat said that the seventh edition of the event, previously held in other EU capitals, would attract the participation of GCC and EU officials, namely GCC Secretary General Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah, in addition to others.

The four-day event is aimed at bolstering dialogue between the GCC and EU, looking into efforts for better relations between the two entities.
