Jordan (Amman) - Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs and Communications Ali Al Ayed on Saturday opened the 1st Jordan Festival for Arab Media with participants from across the Arab world.

Al Ayed said that technological advancement made in the field of information and communications has significantly contributed to bridging the gap in the world, adding that it was incumbent upon Arab media to deliver a constructive and meaningful message to the world on Arabs.

He stressed that the media message should address Arab minds and intellectuals and provide accurate and authentic information to the public while shunning misinformation and "undesired guidance." There are various international media outlets that try to distort the image of the Arab human, which makes it necessary for the Arab media to show the positive image of Arabs and promote a culture of tolerance among peoples of the world, the minister said.

Jordan, he said, had terminated state monopoly of the media by setting up the Audio-Visual Commission media, noting that national legislation had made it easier for investors to open radio and television stations in the Kingdom. Al Ayed referred to a large number of satellite channels that broadcast from Jordan where they could find a friendly and unrestrained environment.

The three-day gathering brought together representatives from private and public TV channels, film production companies as well as TV advertisement agencies in the Arab world.
