Syria, Lebanon Discuss Planting, Forestry and Agricultural Cooperation

Syria (Damascus) – Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otri on Monday reviewed with Lebanese Agriculture Minister Hussein al-Haj Hassan the relations between Syria and Lebanon and the importance of developing them in a way that serves the best interests of both countries.

The meeting dealt with prospects of cooperation between agricultural ministries of both countries, including the development of livestock and agriculture, seed and planting production, forestry and agricultural production exchange.

Cooperation in the field of agricultural pest prevention, agricultural and veterinary medicine and food safety were also issues of discussion.

In July, Syria and Lebanon signed 18 agreements, memos of understanding and protocols at the end of meetings of the Syrian-Lebanese Follow-up and Coordination Board co-chaired by Premier Otri and his Lebanese counterpart Saad al-Hariri in Damascus.

Four of the signed agreements were on agricultural cooperation, unifying the rules of licensing and importing medicines and veterinary vaccines, plant prevention, plant quarantine and others.
