Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah brought down the curtains on the GCC Days in London on Thursday.

Speaking to KUNA, Al-Attiyah said: "The three-day events were a big success and widely hailed by the British people and government, which signaled the close ties between the GCC nations and Britain." "The six GCC nations strongly believe in the dialogue and contacts with Britain through various channels such as the just-ended events which included a host of political, economic, social and cultural interactions.

"The GCC Days in London aimed to build more bridges of communication between the two sides, promote knowledge of GCC culture and civilization, strengthen the objective and constructive dialogue, and remove any factors of misunderstanding," he pointed out.

"We used the events as an opportunity for enhanced exchanges with the political, economic, social and intellectual elites. The meeting, held at Lancaster House in central London on Tuesday, was part of the GCC-UK partnership; it brought together a large number ministers and business leaders from both sides, Al-Attiyah went on to say.

On Wednesday, the second day of the event, "we held a conference at Chatham House, or the Royal Institute of International Affairs, in the heart of London, to review the on GCC-UK cooperation in the historical context," he said.

The last day event focused on the pivotal role of GCC women in development, he said, noting that the University of London hosted a symposium on this subject earlier today.

"The sincere message of friendship we have carried to the British nation drew a very positive response from the British people and government," Al-Attiyah affirmed.

The GCC chief voiced great satisfaction with the complete success of the events as shown in the large participation of the leading British politicians, economists and intellectuals.

"We hope that the future GCC days in other European cities would be as successful as the London events," he said.

"I take this opportunity to express gratitude to Kuwait Ambassador and the Dean of Diplomatic Corps in London Khaled Al-Duwaisan and the other Kuwaiti diplomats for the huge efforts they have made to ensure the success of the events," Al-Attiyah added.

He also thanked His Highness the Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, whose country presides over the current term of GCC Supreme Council, for his contributions to the progress of the regional bloc.
