Syria: Phosphate Sales Hit $ 152 million in 2010

Syria (Damascus) - Syria's production of phosphate exceeded the planned production as it reached 198 percent in the third quarter of 2010.

Director General of the General Establishment for Geology Jamal al-Dayri told al-Thawra Syrian daily that the value of phosphate sales hit $ 152 million (SYP 7 billions) in the third quarter of the current year to increase twofold in comparison with the planned production, estimated at SYP 3.4 billions.

"We planned to export 1.4 million tons of phosphate, but we exported 2.3 million tons in the first nine months of 2010 with an execution rate of 198 percent due to the prosperity of fertilizer industry on the international level," al-Dayri said.

He added that the internal sales of phosphate amounted to 313,000 tons which is less than the planned volume.

Concerning the investment and marketing of other raw materials, al-Dayri said "The establishment has several investments in raw materials such as salt, plaster and asphalt, but most of them are sold in the local markets."

He stressed that the value of internal and external sales of the establishment hit SYP 8.3 billions in the third quarter of 2010 with an execution rate of 147 percent.
