Qatar (Doha) - High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Jorge Sampaio visited Sunday Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development as part of his current visit to the country.

During the visit, Sampaio was briefed about Qatar Foundation activities and objectives, as well as its different projects and future plans.

He was also briefed about the Education City which is considered one of the main projects of Qatar Foundation, as well as Qatar Science and Technology Park and other educational and research programs.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the UN official said that Qatar Foundation is a pilot project that contributes to support the idea and goals of the Alliance of Civilizations through the roles played by its international institutes and universities in the areas of education and scientific research, which form the focal point for understanding between nations and peoples.

He praised Qatar''s interest in the education sector and scientific research and its focus on human development. Sampaio noted that his three-day visit to Doha aims to follow up and discuss the preparations for the 4th Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, which Doha will host on December 2011.

Discussions will include the topics and ideas that can be presented before the Forum, in addition to other issues concerning the participants and activities, he added.

Sampaio said that the upcoming Forum in Doha will represent a new launch for the Alliance of Civilizations and will translate the ideas and recommendations issued by the previous conferences into practical steps that would contribute to enhance dialogue and understanding between communities and establish the principles of mutual respect between the different cultures.
