Italy (Milan) - Milan Mayor Letizia Moratti on Monday expressed anew her personal pride and pleasure for hosting the Kuwaiti-launched Islamic antiquities exhibition.

Speaking to KUNA, Mortatti said she was overwhelmed with gratification for the holding of the exhibition, organized by Kuwait's Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah (Islamic antiquities house) and for choosing this Italian city as the first base for holding the exhibition in several countries across the world.

She indicated that the holding of the exhibition, recently launched by representative of HH the Amir, Minister of Oil and Minister of Information Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, had been pondered first during her visit to Kuwait two years ago, when she saw the eye-dazzling relics for the first time.

The mayor expressed gratitude to Sheikha Hessa Al-Sabah for her initiative of launching this event, affirming the significant message portrayed by this activity.

She also expressed deep gratitude to HH the Amir for visiting Milan last April, and presented identical sentiments to Sheikh Ahmad Al-Abdullah for representing His Highness at this "unique cultural event." The exhibition has drawn high turnout of people anxious to get a sense of the Islamic civilization, depicted in displayed items, estimated at more than 300 treasures and historic pieces.

The exhibition, held between October 20, 2010, and January 30, 2011, over a total area of 1,200 sqm, displays are more than 350 artifacts, of which one third are have never been seen before.

The exhibit retrace a thousand years of Islamic history the 7th to the 17th century; they include carpets, cloths, refined metals, ceramics, sculptures, miniatures, precious jewels and ivory objects, that come from a very vast geographic area that goes from Spain to the Far East.
