Raymah - Touristic Treasure in Yemen Mountains

Yemen (Raymah) - No doublet that investments and tourism are very important for improving the economic and social situations in any country.

In Yemen, there are a lot of tourist features and places. Raymah province is considered one of the best tourist provinces in the country.

In 2004, Raymah, 200km far from Sana'a capital, was announced as new province with around half million population. It contains six districts and al-Jabin city is the capital of the province.

It is scheduled that the province would host a meeting of tourism and investment in June of coming year.

Lack for Infrastructure
Citizens of the province have complained lack of the infrastructure projects (waters, electricity, roads …etc). Others confirmed works in several development projects were not completed such as waters project.

A head of lands committee Sheikh Mohammed Amin said that in spite of supplying waters pipelines to houses, but projects still doesn’t work.

Sheikh Amin said that Raymah is agricultural province and famous with cultivation of high quality of coffee, pointing out to the problems of lacking for infrastructure projects in different districts of the province.

Jamilah Murshid, a citizen, complained about corruption of the welfare fund in the province, saying that she just receives only YR 6,000 time times a year not four times like beneficiaries of other provinces.

Health and Education
Director of follow up department for performance Abdul Aziz al-Bathiji said that the educational and health projects are available in the province at 80 percent and distributed in accordance with villages and districts of the province.

He said that the high cost of construction for school or health center is the problem facing development of these services.

For his part, the director of al-Jabin district Saleh Damaj said that the leadership of the province is working to achieve further development projects, calling on prime minister to ask ministries to offer needs of the province from development and services projects.

No Vision
Many officials of the province agreed that it is difficult for businessmen to come and invest in the province as no a clear vision on the province in general which could show features of the province. They also agreed that the province if excellent for tourist investments because its climate and geographic diversity of climate as well as its historical sites.

Investment Opportunities
The province has a lot of investment opportunities but lack of infrastructure is a key problem facing the investments in the province. Director of Balad al-Tam district of Raymah Nasr Sha'e said that the province has many investment chances especially in tourism sector which might impact positively on the economic situation in the province.

He also pointed out to the historical sites in the many ancient mosques, saying that the citizens have weak knowledge and awareness about importance of such places and the archeological objects as some sold those objects.

Moreover, he indicated to chance of investment in fields of rocks and cement.

Secretary General of the local council in the province Hassan al-Amri affirmed efforts of the leadership of the governorate to protect these historical places and develop its economic resources such as agricultural resources.

Al-Amri admitted problem of infrastructure, saying that the province also needs for vocational and technical institutes to quality students to labor market.

Limited Resources
Raymah governor Ali al-Khadami said that the local authority has worked to realize a good infrastructure and basic services in order to achieve comprehensive development, saying that the province has limited resources.

Al-Khadami said that the allocated budget for the province was not enough to meet needs of the development process in the province.

Regarding the meeting of the investment and tourism, the governor said that the meeting would be a chance to promote for the available investment opportunities in different economic sectors including tourism.

He made it clear that many workshops would be organized to study all these opportunities to be presented in the meeting with full details, saying that the governorate leadership and lock authority would offer all care and support for investment projects in the province.
