GCC reaching out to highest standards of living, social welfare

KUWAIT - Social development schemes in the Gulf region are aimed at reaching highest standards possible of living and social welfare and achieving the desired development, said GCC Secretary General Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah.

In a speech delivered on Thursday at the end of the 32nd meeting for the GCC undersecretaries of Ministries of Social Affairs held here, he said the meetings addressed the important issues in the social sphere, issues related to the cooperatives in those countries and other relevant topics.

The conferees focused in their deliberations on matters related to foster families for orphans, social responsibilities, juvenile delinquents and the direction and guidance of family and social security, Al-Attiyah said.

He expressed hope the participants in the session would issue recommendations related to these issues, in addition to following up in the application phase to achieve the aspired objectives for the benefit of the people off the GCC countries.

On her part, Dr. Sharifa bint Khalfan Al Yahya'eeiyah, the Omani Social Development Minister, said "We are obliged to draw up the best plans and programs to suit our needs as people," emphasizing the importance of family cohesion in the Gulf and the employment of various human resources in the process of national construction and development.
