Syria (Hasaka) - Nature reserves spreading across Syria have played an important role in creating a suitable atmosphere for the wildlife, in addition to preserving the biodiversity and investing the eco-systems in activating tourism movement.

The project of 'Sabaa Zlam' in Abdul-Aziz Mountain Nature Reserve in the northeastern Province of Hasaka plays an important role in preserving the biodiversity and natural forests, in addition to curbing the overgrazing in the reserve.
The project is being implemented by the Department of Preserving Biological Diversity and the Department of Nature Reserves at the Ministry of Agriculture, in addition to the Ministry of Local Administration.

The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), as well as the Agriculture Directorate of Hasaka.

Director of Abdul-Aziz Nature Reserve Riyad al-Tarkhou said that the project aims at preserving the biological diversity at Abdul-Aziz Mountain, and improving the economic and living conditions of the local citizens, in addition to reducing the dependence of livestock on the natural pastures.
Al-Tarkhou added that a typical farm for breeding cows will be established in the framework of the project to provide more job opportunities for the locals, in addition to building cow barns in line with the nature of the area.

He added that establishing cow barns would curb poverty and unemployment in the area and raise social awareness on the importance of breeding cows which have high productivity.

The project will be implemented over an area of 100 dunams where several facilities will be established such as cow barns, dairy factories and beehives, in addition to sowing natural and forage plants.

The project started with six cows, and later the number increased to reach 10 in a very short time as it achieved a high productivity.
