Qatar (Doha) - Experts from the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) and the European Union concluded a meeting.

Director of Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Center (MEMAC) captain Abdulmonem Al-Janahi told the press that this meeting was held in line with the resolution of the 14th meeting of the Council of ROMPE which highlighted the need of a regional plan to protect the marine environment from pollution.

The meeting called for responding to marine emergency and developing a response strategy that can serve as an effective tool for the development in the region, he pointed out.

He noted that MEMAC prepared a special project to study this strategy with the assistance of several international experts from the EU.

He added that the experts discussed the plan during the Doha meeting and studied it from various aspects with the clarification of the issues related to it, in addition to discussing the establishment of main stations for the rescue.

Al-Janahi stressed the importance of these stations due to the tremendous development in economic projects in various fields such as oil and gas production and water desalination plants with a total capacity of more than five billion cubic meters.
