Syria, Bulgaria: Business Forum Discusses Investment Opportunities and Trade Cooperation

Bulgaria (Sofia) - The Syrian-Bulgarian Businessmen Forum was held with the participation of 200 businessmen representing a number of leading companies from different economic sectors.

The Forum aims at discussing economic cooperation between the two countries.

Delivering a speech at the Forum, Minister of Economy and Trade Lamia Assi, reviewed the most important points of strength of the Syrian economy, in addition to the promising investment atmosphere and the economic and investment opportunities available in the country.

Assi highlighted the role of businessmen and the private sector in developing trade, economic and investment relations between the two countries, inviting the Bulgarian businessmen to benefit from the positive investment atmosphere in Syria to establish joint companies in different domains.

For his part, Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov expressed his country's keenness on power link between the Arab and Balkans regions, highlighting particularly the issue of supplying Syria with electric power by Bulgaria.

Minister Traikov voiced hope that the Syrian and Bulgarian businessmen would be able to establish joint investments in the sectors of tourism and the air and land transport.

In a statement to SANA, Minister Assi indicated that the Forum is part of the economic agenda which President al-Assad had on his visit to Bulgaria with the aim of encouraging the Syrian and Bulgarian businessmen to establish more partnerships and to build strong relations among them.

Minister Assi pointed out that she agreed with Minister Traikov on holding a meeting for the Joint Ministerial Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation next spring in 2011 to discuss the economic cooperation, the investments and the economic and trade opportunities.

She also discussed with Minister Traikov the ongoing preparations for holding the Syrian-Bulgarian Ministerial Committee which will be held in the first half of 2011, calling for implementing what has been agreed upon by both countries with the aim of reaching positive tangible outcomes serving the interests of both countries' friendly peoples.

The Syrian-Bulgarian Businessmen Forum was held in the framework of the visit of President Bashar al-Assad to Bulgaria.
