Morocco eager to liberalise trade of agricultural, fisheries products with EU

Brussels - An official of Morocco's foreign trade ministry stressed the need to sign, as soon as possible, the agreement on the liberalisation of the trade of agricultural, agri-food and fisheries products with the EU.

Addressing the ninth conference of trade ministers of the Union for the Mediterranean, El Aid Mahsoussi highlighted the appreciable headway made in the negotiations on the agreement to liberalise services.

He voiced hope that the process will take account of Morocco's specific needs at both general and sector-specific levels in keeping with the goals outlined by the Advanced Status which the EU granted Morocco in 2008.

The official called for accelerating efforts to adopt a unique regional convention on the rules of origin, taking into consideration the development needs of the countries of the south of the Mediterranean.

He noted that the Agadir agreement has enabled to raise trade between the member states (Morocco, Egypt, Jordan and Tunisia) and remains open to other Arab partners from the Mediterranean. (MAP)
