Syria (Damascus) - In spite of the high prices of cotton yarn at the international markets, the Syrian General Organization for Textile Industry (GOTI), the only producer of textile in Syria, has always sought to provide the needs of the local markets.

The GOTI used to sell textile to the industrialists with stable prices, but the industrialist demanded to determine the prices of textile according to the international prices after they witnessed a considerable decrease.

The Syrian Government accepted the demands of the industrialists as the GOTI started to sell textile according to the international prices in addition to taking several measures to remove all obstacles hindering the work of the Organization.

GOTI Director General Dr. Jamal al-Omar said that due to the international prices of cotton and textile which increase or decrease according to the international economic conditions, the prices influence the costs of production, and to preserve the interests of the industrialists, the GOTI adopted certain instructions last May for selling cotton yarn at the local market.

Dr. al-Omar added that GOTI has also granted a great opportunity to its customers of the industrialist to obtain their needs of textile over a period of two months or more after submitting their applications.

The GOTI and its affiliated companies had announced that they can provide the local market with 3,520 tons of textiles of different types per month.

In spite of the increase in textile's price on the international level, the GOTI preferred not to sell its production to other countries and continued to supply the Syrian industrialists with their needs of textile as it stopped the exportation for 15 days to focus on the local market although it could lose some of its customers at the external markets.

The companies of the GOTI have now a production of more than 7 tons of cotton yarn allocated for providing the demands of the local market, according to Dr. al-Omar.
