40th National Day of Oman - Sultan Qaboos presides over military parade

Oman (Muscat) - The Sultanate on Thursday celebrates the 40th National Day marking the beginning of the Renaissance led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said which has opened doors of progress and prosperity to the Omani people.

On this historic day, the people of Oman renew their loyalty to the founder of the Omani Renaissance. The prosperous era, led by His Majesty, has offered Omani citizens equal opportunities to achieve their aspirations through comprehensive and sustainable development.

To mark the 40th National Day, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces presided over the military parade staged this evening at the military parade ground at Hisn Al Shumookh to mark the Sultanate's 40th Glorious National Day at which symbolic units for the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), Royal Guard of Oman (RGO) and Royal Oman Police (ROP) took part.

On the arrival of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces at the Parade Ground and his ascension to the Royal Box, the parade column gave the military salute, the Royal Anthem was played by the joint military parade band while the artillery fired a twenty-one gun salute to His Majesty.

Afterwards, the commander of parade column approached the Royal Box asking permission of His Majesty the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forced to start the military parade, which started by the joint military musical parade featured by the corps of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO), Royal Oman Police (ROP), the Royal Court Affairs (RCA) which passed in military formation before the Royal Box in regular march giving the military salute to the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

The Column of the Protocols Guard chanted the loyalty and allegiance to His Majesty, proclaiming thrice long live His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. Then, the Royal Anthem was played and the Columns of the Protocols Guard gave the military Salute to His Majesty the Sultan signaling the end of the parade.

Afterwards, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces left the Military Parade Ground at Hisn Al Shumookh.

The ceremony was attended by their Highnesses, Chairmen of the State Council and Majlis A'Shura, Ministers, Advisers, Commanders of the Sultan's Armed Forces, Royal Guard of Oman, military and security apparatuses and senior commanders and officers.

It was also attended by honourable members of the State Council and members of Majlis A'Shura, judges, Walis of the Dhakihiliyah Region, a number of the state's senior officials, commissioned and non-commissioned officers and personnel of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF), Royal Guard of Oman (RGO), Royal Oman Police (ROP) and security services, a number of Sheikhs and dignitaries.

The modern Sultanate built by His Majesty is based on the country’s ability to mobilise all the energies of its people and resources to achieve national unity and development in all fields. The Sultan’s Armed Forces, Royal Guard of Oman, Royal Oman Police and various security agencies have done a commendable role in maintaining the security and integrity of the country.

Since the beginning of the Renaissance march, His Majesty insisted on the participation of Omani citizens in the development process. The Sultanate emphasises on equality and rule of law to guarantee the rights of its people.

It may be noted that Omani laws provide an opportunity for reconciliation committees to enhance the relationships between the members of the society.

The Sultanate has joined various international conventions to protect human rights and to fight against discrimination and human trafficking. A national committee for human rights under the State Council was also formed.

His Majesty has implemented various initiatives to support women and Omani Women’s Forum, launched in Seih Al Makarim in the Wilayat of Sohar in October 2009, has helped the women in the Sultanate to achieve great progress in various spheres.

The Sultanate is ranked first according to the Human Development 2010 report issued by the United Nations thanks to the developments in the fields of healthcare and education. The country has also improved its standings regionally and globally in economic freedom, transparency and business competitiveness.

On Wednesday, leaders from various Arab and friendly countries sent congratulatory cables to His Majesty on the occasion of National Day.

His Majesty received greetings from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jabir Al Sabah, Syrian President Dr Bashar Al Assad, Libyan President Muammar Al Gaddafi, Yemen President Ali Abdallah Saleh, President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, Indonesian President Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Iran President Dr  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dr Haris Silajdzic, President of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbaeva, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, King Albert II of Belgium, King Phumiphon Adunyadet

of Thailand, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsian, German President Christian Wulff, President of Ireland Mary Mcaleese, President of Portugal Anibal Antonio Cavaco Silva,  President of Tanzania Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of China Hu Jintao, President of Croatia Ivo Josipovic, President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak, Acting President of Moldova Mihai Ghimpu, President of Hungary Dr Pal Schmitt, President of Austria Dr Heinz Fischer and President of India Pratibha Patil.

His Majesty also received cables of congratulations from Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council of UAE and Ruler of the Emirate of Fujairah,

Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, Hamad Bin Saif Al Sharqi, Deputy Ruler of Fujairah, Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of Bahrain, Nuri Al Maliki, Prime Minister of Iraq and Kim Yang Nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Republic of Korea Democratic Republic.

HM also received cables of congratulations from the chairmen of diplomatic missions, representatives of organisations, institutions and senior officials.

The leaders and officials expressed their sincere congratulations and best wishes of good health, happiness and a long life to His Majesty wishing the people of the Sultanate continued progress under the wise leadership of His Majesty.

HM also received cables of congratulations from ministers, advisers and leaders of the Sultan’s Armed Forces and Royal Oman Police and members of the State Council and Shura Council, Omani ambassadors and sheikhs and citizens.
