Oman (Muscat) - The Sultanate celebrates, on the 18th of November, the 40th anniversary of the Blessed Renaissance under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

On this glorious occasion marking the historic day, the Omanis across the Sultanate renew their loyalty to the founder of the Blessed Renaissance, His Majesty who managed through his will, determination and wise vision to channel all physical and human resources to translate the Royal objectives and turn them into reality for the Omani citizens who now enjoy peace, security, progress and prosperity.

If the national days are good opportunities to look into the achievements made and get energy to continue work towards the noble aims , the 40th anniversary of the Omani modern Renaissance is a good opportunity to express loyalty and deep thanks to His Majesty the Sultan , the commander and architect of the achievements witnessed by Omani citizen under His Majesty's wise leadership.

His Majesty the Sultan has been very keen on laying the bases of the modern Omani Renaissance and build the pillars of the state. To this end, the prosperous era, led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, has opened the doors of development, progress and prosperity to the Omanis. They were provided equal opportunities to achieve their aspirations, ambitions and hopes, without discrimination, through comprehensive and sustainable development which the Omani citizen enjoys its ripe fruits wherever he is. This is well expressed by the daily life of Omanis and the achievements made throughout the last 40 years. This is also confirmed by the features of the bright future in all fields.

The Omani modern Renaissance is moving ahead towards its aims achieving the aspirations of the country and the citizen towards building modern state that ensures security, stability, progress and prosperity for the nation and the citizens and contribute to achieve peace, stability and security.

His Majesty at the opening of the annual session of the Council of Oman at Al Hisn Hall in Salalah on October 4th, said that Oman's Renaissance began from the Governorate of Dhofar and it was there that the first steps were taken towards the achievement of its hopes.

His Majesty affirmed that the Sultanate is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its progress, during the course of which its achievements in many fields are plain for all to see and have changed the face of life in Oman, enabling it to assume a position of eminence at both regional and international levels. It is here we said the first word to express our determination to work towards building a modern state and the advancement of the country in various fields as much as possible.

The promise of His Majesty was fulfilled due to continuous practical planning, enlightened thought and comprehensive vision by which a balance between our heritages and modernisation requirements were met.

The modern country built by His Majesty is based on the success in the ability to mobilise all energies in the country, which include people and resources. These policies led to the increased contributions of Omanis in national development and unity.

The Sultan's Armed Forces, Royal Guard of Oman, Royal Oman Police and various other apparatuses had played their roles in maintaining the security and integrity of the country to achieve unhindered development and modernity.

Since the beginning of the blessed Renaissance march, His Majesty affirmed on the participation and contribution of the citizens in the development process. The principles of the country are based on equality and rights of the citizens which played a role in the development of the country.

The Omani law provides an opportunity for reconciliation committees to do its part in reconciliation between citizens according to Omani tradition by mutual consent in order to enhance the ties and relationships between members of the society.

In this context, the Sultanate joined various international conventions concerned with preserving human rights and the fight against discrimination and human trafficking.

A national commission for human rights under the State Council was formed. Besides this, His Majesty issued a Royal Decree No.102/2010 on September 22nd, 2010 to cancel the State Security Court.

The Omani citizen enjoys all the rights including political rights of nomination and election to membership of the Majlis A'Shura. The Council of Oman, which consists of the State Council and the Majlis A'Shura, does its role with the participation of citizens in formulating and guiding national development.

The State Council is a parliamentary institution which plays a vital role in the development of the Omani society economically, socially and politically.

The State Council includes 74 members (16 women) representing over 20% of the Council's members.

Majlis A'Shura includes 83 members elected by the Omani citizens. Omani women are expected to get membership in the Majlis A'Shura from next year onwards with the support of His Majesty the Sultan and the Government.

His Majesty's support to women was clear during the launch of ‘Omani Women's Symposium' in Saih Al Makarim in the Wilayat of Sohar in October 2009 at the Royal Camp and the recommendations approved by His Majesty when His Majesty said: "We give our full attention to women's participation in the march of the Omani Renaissance. We provide her opportunities for education, training and employment and stressed the need for her contribution in the various areas of development through the systems and laws and ensured her rights and showed her duties and made her able to promote herself.

This development has been expanded to cover all the sectors of the Omani society with special care for the social security families and those with special needs in a bid to provide the Omani citizen with the opportunities for progress and prosperityand enable him to turn his aspirations into realityso that the Omani man becomes a source of support for the development efforts in all fields. The Royal Grants of His Majesty the Sultan on the Omani citizens at the different occasions have been ceaseless, the latest of which was during the 40th National Day anniversary. These grants reflect His Majesty the Sultan's keenness to make the Omani citizens happy, especially the development essence is to make the Omani man happy as His Majesty sees.

The Sultanate is ranked first in terms of human development in the field of health care and education according to the report of Human Development 2010 issued by the United Nations.

The Sultanate has reached top spots, regionally and internationally, in the level of economic freedom, transparency and degree of economic competitiveness and efficiency as indicated by reports of several financial and economic institutions over the recent weeks.

The Sultanate is ranked first among Arab countries and 20th in the world in transparency and independence of the judicial system, according to a report by ‘Frazier' a Canadian centre this year.

This is another international recognition achieved by the Sultanate for its policies not only in economic and financial but also in health, educational, judicial, cultural, media and other sectors.

The Economist magazine and the American Fund for Peace classified the Sultanate as the most stable country among Arab and African countries.

On the other hand, as part of His Majesty the Sultan's endeavors to revive and enhance the contribution of the Omani man to the human culture, has been very keen always on promoting dialogue with other cultures either through providing support to the regional and international cultural organizations or through establishing Sultan Qaboos academic chairs at a number of prestigious universities in the world. The number of these chairs at the U.S. European, Australian, Asian and Arab universities now stands at 14.

The Sultanate's foreign policy seeks to achieve security, peace, and stability at the Gulf, Arab and International levels through its clear and frank approach in dealing with various issues as the Sultanate is always keen to develop friendly relations with various nations.
