IGU Meeting in Qatar - Natural Gas Role in a Sustainable Energy Future

Qatar (Doha) - The International Gas Union (IGU) and the International Energy Forum will organise a Ministerial meeting in Doha, on Tuesday , Nov.30 where also CEOs from leading energy companies worldwide are invited to speak. The title of the forum is "The role of Natural Gas in a Sustainable Energy Future".

It will address key issues as regards the role of natural gas in a low carbon future, a topic which also will be highlighted during and IGU Natural Gas Symposium on 5 December 2010 in Cancun, Mexico during the UNFCCC Climate Change Conference (COP16).

The meeting is upon invitation only and will be held behind closed doors. The objective of the forum is to enhance the dialogue among governments, organizations and the players in the gas industry, according to a press release by IGU.

The IGU annual Council Meeting has been concluded in Doha. About 150 IGU delegates from across the globe discussed significant issues relating to the union, which promotes technical and economic progress of the natural gas industry. The Council also approved Mexico as new Charter member while ExxonMobil (USA) Origin Energy Limited (Australia) and RWE Rheinland Westfalen Netz AG (Germany) were approved as new Associate members.

IGU now has 110 members worldwide. The meetings, hosted by Qatargas, have facilitated discussions on going IGU business, networking on various activities and exchange of knowledge and expertise among the industry experts.

The Council also discussed advocacy of natural gas, a topic which also will be highlighted during the below forthcoming major IGU events. (QNA)
