Egypt, Kenya enhancing economic cooperation

Egypt’s Trade and Industry Minister Rasheed Mohamed Rasheed discussed in Cairo with visiting Kenyan Trade and Industry Minister Chirau Mwakwere means to boost joint investments and trade exchange in the coming phase.

The meeting was held within the framework of the Egyptian government's directives to promote and enhance economic relations with the African countries.

In statements after the meeting, Rasheed said that he agreed with his Kenyan counterpart the necessity of facing challenges that hinder the increase of trade exchange. He added that there is a promising opportunity to increase cooperation with Kenya in the coming phase especially in the food industries.

Asked about the bilateral trade relations, Rasheed said that they do not live up to the level of political relations binding the two countries. He voiced hope of further promoting economic and investment relations between Egypt and Kenya in the coming period.

For his part, the Kenyan minister asserted his country's interest to open new vistas of economic cooperation with Egypt.

He also called for activating the joint business council between the two countries to play an effective role in boosting economic and trade relations between them. (SIS)
