Oman, India to increase investment & trade exchange

Oman (Salalah) - The seminar on Commercial Opportunities Between the Sultanate and India was held at Crowne Plaza Hotel in the presence of Sheikh Abdullah bin Saif al-Mahrouqi, Deputy Governor of Dhofar. The seminar was organized by the Indian embassy in the Sultanate in cooperation with the Oman International Trade and Exhibition's (OITE) within the framework of the continuous pursuit to develop the commercial ties between the two countries.

At the beginning of the seminar, Anil Wadhwa, the Indian ambassador to the Sultanate delivered a speech expressing his pleasure and pride for hosting the second round of the seminar series that being hosted by the Indian embassy in the Sultanate for promoting the commercial opportunities between the Sultanate and India in Wilayat of Salalah.

"Wilayat of Salalah was a good geographical centre for trade throughout its ports that were exporting luban, (frankincense) Bukhour and spices to several ancient civilizations," he added.

Wadhwa pointed out that he is looking forward to increase the volume of investment exchange between the two friendly countries by casting light on the available investment sectors in the local market and the chances of the commercial exchange, indicating that the seminar was a platform for forming ties between the governmental and private sector enterprises and establishments concerned with the commercial cooperation between the two countries.

The seminar also gave a brief presentation to the characteristics of the Indian economy, the long-term plans, investment opportunities being offered by the emerging sectors, as well as, highlighting the economic relations between the Sultanate and India and discussing the ways for reinforcing the commercial exchange between the private sector enterprises in the two countries.

This seminar that is being hosted by the Indian embassy in a number of wilayats comes to affirm the pursuit of the two governments to promote the spheres of the commercial ties for the sake of developing the local economy.

It is worth mentioning that the Sultanate will take part in the two-day Partnership Summit to be held in Mumbai, India in January 24th under the theme (New Partnerships for Economic Development) with more than 1200 participants representing 30 countries.
