Oman Chamber Organizes Sohar for Investment Opportunities Conference

Oman (Muscat) - Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) will organize a two-day conference titled " Sohar for Investment Opportunities" in Crowne Plaza Hotel in the Wilayat of Sohar on February 20th.

This was announced by Khalil bin Abdullah al Khunji, OCCI Chairman in a press conference held at the OCCI's premises today.

Al Khunji said that organizing this conference, the 1st of its type in the Al Batinah Region, OCCI aims to stimulate investment in the Sultanate's governorates and regions in support of the government's efforts to diversify income sources and benefit from the comparative advantages of various governorates and regions in the Sultanate, as well as, highlighting the investment climate in the Sultanate.

He also added that the conference will highlight the fields of investment and the potentials in Sohar in particular and the Al Batinah Region in general, as well as, familiarizing the businessmen, businesswomen and investors from the Sultanate and the sisterly and friendly countries with the investment climate, advantages and facilities of investment in various governorates and regions in the Sultanate.

Al Khunji pointed out that the conference, which will be held under the auspices of Sayyid Taimour bin Asa'ad bin Tariq al Said, comes within the framework of the efforts exerted to diversify sources of the national income, which is one of the basic pillars for the future vision of the Omani economy 2020, stating that the conference will include panel discussions and specialized working papers to be presented by governmental and private institutions among the AGCC Organizations, besides reviewing the experiences of some leading investment companies.

On his turn, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah al Badi, member of the OCCI Board, Head of the OCCI Committee in the Al Batinah Region and Head of the conference's Organizing Committee said that a number of ministers and the State's senior officials, as well as, businessmen and businesswomen within and outside the Sultanate will attend the conference.

He also explained that the Al Batinah Region is witnessing a great economic, urban and investment progress, most importantly the construction of the industrial area in Sohar among other economic, tourism and service projects that represent an opportunity to open new prospects for investment in Sohar in a number of fields.

Jamal Tawfeeq Aziz, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sohar Industrial Port Company and CEO of Sohar Free Zone said that Sohar Port has potentials and capacity for all projects due to be set up in the industrial area or the free zone.

He also affirmed that the Wilayat of Sohar will play a significant logistic role in the import, export, re-assembly and storage due to its distinguished strategic location near to the large consumer markets that are characterized by the existence of high population density and high economic growth, such as, India AGCC states and the Middle East, Iran and Iraq.
