MUSCAT — His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers,
yesterday toured the “Ancient Treasure Ships Exhibition — from China to the Arabian Peninsula and the Omani ancient voyage”. The exhibition is organised by National Geographic in co-operation with the Foreign Ministry.
HH Sayyid Fahd was received by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry and a number of exhibition officials and supervisors. HH Sayyid Fahd listened to a detailed explanation about the exhibition which embodies the deep-rooted Arab-Chinese relations and the Omani role in enriching cultural contact.
The exhibition includes archaeological objects that date  back to the 9th and the 16th Century AD and the 3rd Century AD. The exhibition has dedicated a division for information about the Jewel of Muscat sailboat that is imitates the 19th century ships. The Jewel of Muscat was built in Muscat and sailed early last year to Singapore passing through several historical Asian ports. The exhibition also features historical voyages made by the famous Chinese Sailor Chan Kan to the Arab region and Oman.
The exhibition is a good opportunity document voyages made by ancient Omani sailors and Oman’s cultural contact with peoples belonging to other civilisations. It also underscores maritime commercial activities between the East 1297093496186530200 and the West.
HH Sayyid Fahd hailed the efforts of the Omani youths who operated the epic voyage last year on board the Jewel of Muscat using simple traditional navigation tools like sails and the stars. He also thanked the exhibition organisers.
At the conclusion of the visit, HH Sayyid Fahd signed the Visitors Book, saying that “Oman’s glorious present is attached with its deep-rooted past”.
The Sultanate, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, lives one of its most prominent stages in its history that is rich in achievements and modernisation, while at the same time preserving its heritage and authenticity. This exhibition is a good opportunity for highlighting historical relations between Oman and China. — ONA
