RUSTAQ — The Transport and Communication Ministry (MoTC) celebrated here yesterday
the opening of the 24 km Al Maladah-Al Hazm dual carrigeway in the Al Batinah region.
The event presided over by Shaikh Abdullah bin Salim al Rowas, Minister of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, in the presence of ministers and under-secretaries.
Salim bin Mohammed al Nuaimi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications for Transport, gave a speech indicating the importance of this project as part of the 40th glorious National Day celebrations and the continuous efforts of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos’s Government aimed at developing and updating the level of transport services.

The project includes the construction of the dual-carriage-way project from Al Maladah roundabout to Al Hazm roundabout (24 km), 7 km-long services roads, construction of  300m-long dual-carriage-way for the air base, three roundabouts and two tunnels for passersby and vehicles. “The project will promote tourism and social and business activities as it connects Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah regions via the Rustaq-Ibri road,” he commented.

This vital road also consists of two lanes in each direction with a width of between 5 to 7 metres. The road has internal shoulders ranging between 1 to 2 metres and external shoulders ranging between 2 to 5 metres. It is also expected to make mobility between Al Batinah and other regions easy for all citizens and residents.
The ceremony included a number of traditional folklore. Then, the chief guest unveiled the plaque marking the opening of the road.(OmanObserver)
