Italy highlights tourism achievements in Morocco

Rome - Italian Tourism Minister Michela Vittoria Brambilla highlighted the considerable development witnessed in Morocco's tourism sector, one of the favourite tourist destinations for Italians.

"The kingdom witnessed a great tourism development during the last fifteen years" noted the Italian official.

"Morocco is a safe country where we can go”, Brambilla underlined.

Up to Sunday, a recently established service providing advice to Italian tourists received over 700 phone calls concerning North Africa followed by Middle East, she added.

Jazia Santissi, an official from Morocco’s tourism office (ONMT) in Italy, said that Italians’ passion for Morocco as a destination will swell, noting that over 200,000 Italians visited the Kingdom in 2010 against around 185,000 the previous year.

These results exceed the forecasts, Santissi told MAP, adding that Italian tourists prefer such destinations as Marrakech and southern Morocco.

The ONMT has also underlined that seaside resorts fascinate Italian tourists, who represent the first clients of Saidia resort.

Italians come fifth in terms of tourist arrivals in Morocco, after France, Great Britain, Spain and Germany.
