Morocco EU twinning project boosting road safety

Rabat - The Morocco-EU twinning project on boosting road security in Morocco was launched, on Monday in Rabat, during a ceremony attended by Equipment and Transport Minister Karim Ghellab.

This ceremony was also attended by ambassadors of the EU, France, Sweden and Austria, as well as by the Secretary Genegal of the Foreign Ministry and representatives of the royal gendarmerie and the police.

Funded by the EU, this project brings together a consortium of France, Sweden, Austria and Morocco and seeks to enhance security of road infrastructure in the Kingdom.

It will assist in the implementation of the Highway Code enforced since October 2010 through the development of modern technical tools.

This project which spans two years (2011-2012) will enable promoting the information system on accidentology and road traffic, and updating standards and rules concerning signage.

"We set up this project with a view to ameliorating the technical and management capacities of Moroccan executives in relation with designing, equipping, managing and developing road infrastructure in open country as well as in urban area," Ghellab said.
