Egypt, Japan Setting 34 Floating Stations to Cultivate 770000 Feddans

Egypt’s Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hussein el-Oteifi had talks in Cairo with Japan's Ambassador to Egypt Norihiro Okuda on ways to foster cooperation.

The two sides reviewed jointly implemented projects, including 34 floating stations and a feasibility study conducted by the Japanese side to develop irrigation systems in Bahr Yusef area in El-Fayyoum to cultivate 770,000 feddans.

The projects discussed included drawing up a hydrological map of the Sinai Peninsula, a feasibility study for projects in Al-Salam Canal, the construction of three pumping stations on the canal and sanitary drainage, water management and environmental projects and feasibility studies in Dayrout, Zefta and others.

Oteifi said Japan offers Egypt 18 billion yen - 4 billion yen in loans and 14 billion yen in grants - to implement projects in many fields of life.(SIS)
