Kuwait celebrates 50th anniversary of independence and 20th anniversary of liberation, and 5th anniversary of HH the Amir's assumption of power in February 2011.

Kuwait has taken positive steps towards complete development in economics, education, health, social and cultural affairs.

Development and prosperity cannot be achieved without true national unity and joint efforts to the benefit of the country and public interests, as His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said in his speech to the Kuwaiti people on March 19, 2008, "We are all loving brothers, and there is no place for sectarianism or tribalism, our loyalty is to the country we live in, and through our unity we can build a prosperous country."

The Kuwaiti people have proven throughout history that they are united despite their differences. Kuwait's national celebrations are an opportunity to give more to this generous country, as those two celebrations are very special to all Kuwaitis hearts.

Many factors contribute to the development of the people and state, including the education system, family and society, all reinforcing generations in serving Kuwait with loyalty, sacrifice and hard work.

On 25th of February, Kuwait celebrates its National Day to mark the creation of Kuwait as a nation in 1961. On this day, the national celebrations include public meetings and get-togethers, firework displays and a spirit of celebration that imbues every Kuwaiti Public buildings are illuminated on the occasion and Kuwaitis, young and old, wear their national dress to participate in the festivities.

The State of Kuwait is a sovereign Arab nation situated in the northeast of the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the south, and Iraq to the north. It lies on he northwestern shore of the Arab Gulf.

After Kuwait gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1961, the nation's oil industry saw unprecedented economic growth. In 1990, Kuwait was invaded and annexed by neighboring Iraq. The seven month-long Iraqi occupation came to an end after a direct military intervention by United States-led forces. Around 773 Kuwaiti oil wells were set ablaze by the retreating Iraqi army resulting in a major environmental and economic catastrophe. Kuwait's infrastructure was badly damaged during the war and had to be rebuilt.

Kuwait is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system of government, with Kuwait City serving as the country's political and economic capital. The country has the world's fifth largest oil reserves and petroleum products now account for nearly 95% of export revenues, and 80% of government income.

Kuwait is the eleventh richest country in the world per capita. In 2007, it had the highest human development index (HDI) in the Arab world. Kuwait is classified as a high income economy by the World Bank
