Qatar, Germany Strengthening Economic and Political Relations

Qatar_Germany_Hold_Talks
Qatar (Doha) - Qatar and the Federal Republic of Germany held a session of official talks before noon today at the Emiri Diwan, chaired by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the German President Christian Wulff.

The talks were attended by HH the Personal Representative of HH the Emir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani. Attended the talks also were HE the Deputy Premier and Chief of Emiri Diwan Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, a number of thier excllencies ministers, Qatari Ambassador to Germany.

On the German side, the talks were attended by members of delegation accompanying the German President. The two sides discussed bilateral relations and means to enhance them and reviewed a number of regional and international issues of common interest.

HH the Emir hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the German President and his accompanying delegation.

The German President Christian Wulff and HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani attended this evening the meeting organized by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) between Qatari businessmen and their German counterparts.

At the beginning of the meeting, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister delivered a speech welcoming the German President, saying that the presence of the German President at the meeting confirms the sincere keenness to deepen economic cooperation relations with the State of Qatar in a way that serves and achieves development strategic goals of the two friendly countries. HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani added that the visit of HE President Christian Wulff to Doha at the head of a high-level German delegation comes from the joint belief of the importance of contacts and exchange of visits as well as to foster joint political and economic dialogue in a bid to push bilateral relations to wider horizons and reach understanding and common grounds from which relations are to achieve more successes and mutual gains during the coming stage.

HE the Premier and Foreign Minister stressed that the State of Qatar looks to the relations with German with a lot of hope and optimism, in light of the patronage by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, HE the President and Wulff and the German Government, pointing out that what is reinforced by the clear vision of the leaderships of the two countries in all contingencies of the global causes, most of which was the global financial crisis that swept the world recently, where both the State of Qatar and the Federal Republic of Germany came out from it with achieving unparalleled rate of growth rate. HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister said the leaderships of both countries realize that real development is that which achieves prosperity and welfare to all citizens and secures for the coming generations the renewable and sustained resources which can ensure reasonable growth levels as planned.

He said that the openness of the Qatari government towards the outside world aims at securing a place for Qatar among the advanced countries.

He noted the Qatari leadership and government realized the importance of foreign investments in advancing deveopment growth through enhancing cooperation with all countries, foremost the EU which possesses the knowhow. He noted that the Qatari government bought a 10 percent equity in Porsche , 17 percent in Volks Wagen and 400 million dollars worth of shares in Hochtief.

Qatar also signed a contract with Deutches Bahn to build metro Qatar or Rail Qatar. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor al Thani also said that the German president's visit to Qatar comes at a crucial time in the Arab area where changes usher in a democratic enviornment that could pave the way for a significant economic Arab entity.

He hoped that the next period will witness more cooperation between the buisnessmen in Germany and Qatar, and that German businessmen would avail of the opportunities available in Qatar in view of Qatar's hosting of the 2022 international football cup. He cited as an indicator of the intention to boost business cooperation between the two sides, HH the Emir's signing during a recent visit to Germany the declartion of intention to transform the office of the German chamber of trade and industry in Doha into a representative office for Germany trade activity. The step , he said, underlines the importance of boosting business partnership between the two sides.

The German President Christian Wulff Praised the all-round development in Qatar achieved over the past 20 years, noting that the name of Qatar was linked to modernization and scientific research.

He said his country was prepared to participate in contributing to that success. He said Qatar’s vision was far-sighted and was based on seeking development though in a troubled world. He also praised the strength of business relations between the two sides as demonstrated in the reciprocated visits between officials from both countries. Wulff lauded Qatar efforts for promoting peace in the world, pointing out that facing the challenges of the 21st c century necessitate that both sides cooperate in solving world crises.

The German president expressed his appreciation of HH the Emir’s vision which respects the diversity of cultures. He urged German businessmen to work towards stepping up trade relations with Qatar and called upon Qatari businessmen to increase their investments in Germany. For his part, HE the chairman of Qatar’s Chamber of Trade and Industry, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Bin Mohamed al Thani expressed the hope that the visit of the German president would help boost relations and investment cooperation between the two countries. Businessmen on both sides held side meetings on opening up news vistas for investments in both countries.
