Farouk el-Baz: Development Corridor to Change Egypt Face

Renowned Egyptian scientist Farouk el-Baz said "Development Corridor" project will change the face of Egypt and open up new vistas of urban, agricultural and industrial growth.

The project aims at establishing as many as 200 new cities and half a million villages along the corridor of development.

In statements to the Jordanian "Al Arab Al Youm" newspaper out on Thursday 24/02/2011, Baz said a working group will be established to carry out the project, initiated more than 25 years ago.

Baz said the Egyptian government will not finance the project which will be carried out by an Egyptian special investment fund in which all Egyptians could be shareholders.

The project is located west of the Nile from the Mediterranean, all the way to the border with Sudan . This is a space for Egyptians to build towns and villages, to do agriculture, to trade and to develop industries so that they would have more living space, he said. (SIS)
