Syria, UK discuss educational cooperation

Universities_and_Educational_Institutions_in_Syria__Britain_Forum
Syria (Damascus) – The joint Syrian-British Forum "British Education Opportunities  in Syria" started activities on Sunday at Rida Said Conference Center in Damascus University.

Vice-Rector of Damascus University for Scientific Research Affairs Rakan Razzouk said the forum will discuss means of educational cooperation between Syria and Britain, particularly in training teaching staff.

He stressed the need for exchanging visits between students and professors from the two sides in addition to supervising research projects and M.A. dissertations and their role in supporting education development.

For his part, the British Ambassador in Damascus Simon Collis indicated to the importance of establishing partnerships between Syria and Britain in the educational sector to improve its quality and learning technologies.

In turn, Assistant Minister of Education Farah al-Mutlaq told SANA that the Ministry is about to establish a national academy for training, stressing the need for benefiting from the British expertise in training programs and strategies of learning and teaching.

The two-day forum discusses the possibility of making use of curricula and programs in the British universities, education techniques such as distance learning and coordination between the two sides to transfer educational experiences and technologies.

Representatives from 12 British universities and educational institutions are participating in this event in addition to governmental and private educational institutions in Syria.

The conference was organized by UK Trade and Investment Department at the British Embassy in Syria. (SANA)
