Rabat Hosts Morocco Turkey Economic Joint Committee

Morocco (Rabat) - The ninth Morocco-Turkey intergovernmental economic joint committee started, on Wednesday in Rabat, under the co-chairmanship of Morocco's Foreign Trade Minister Abdellatif Maazouz and Turkish Minister of State Hayati Yazici.

This session is an occasion for the two parties to discuss the latest economic developments in Morocco and the economic situation in Turkey, as well as the Moroccan-Turkish cooperation.

The session will touch also on the reinforcement of economic and technical cooperation between the two friendly countries, mainly in the fields of foreign trade, free trade agreement, finance, energy, transportation, agriculture, fisheries and tourism.

The event's agenda schedules meetings between representatives of the General confederation of Moroccan enterprises (CGEM) and the Turkish Council on economic foreign relations concerning the role of the private sector, mainly the businessmen council, in fostering bilateral trade.

Commercial relations between Morocco and Turkey are governed by a free trade agreement enforced since January 1, 2006. Volume of bilateral trade grew 10%, jumping from 6,6 billion dollars in 2006 to 8,6 in 2010. (MAP)
