Egypt calls for water dialogue with Nile Basin countries

Egypt’s Water Ministry said an urgent Egyptian action plan will be implemented to protect Egypt's rights to Nile waters in line with international agreements.

The ministry said the plan calls for boosting coordination with all governments and international parties concerned at the African level to accentuate Egypt's legitimate and internationally-recognized rights.

The ministry underlined the importance of maintaining dialogue with all Nile Basin countries to reach a consensus on formula that serve the interests of all nations.

The ministry made contacts with Sudanese Water Minister Kamal Ali to coordinate between the two countries after Burundi had reportedly joined five upstream Nile Basin states signatories to a framework agreement on Nile water usage.
