Morocco urges honouring commitments to Africa's development

New York (UN) - Morocco reiterated, at the UN's headquarters in New York, the special interest it takes in Africa's development which faces many challenges, and urged honouring commitments made to the continent.

The follow-up of commitments to Africa's development, as well as the setting up of an efficient evaluation system are of paramount importance to Morocco, said Mohamed Loulichki, Morocco's permanent representative to the UN, at the meeting of the Group of 77.

The setting up of this system is crucial since "we are only four years away from the deadline of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and many countries will not be able to achieve several of these goals," he added.

On the instability of foodstuffs' prices, he deemed that the UN and its bodies should play a leading role to find a solution to these poblems.

In addition to finding solutions to the volatility of prices to promote world food security, it is very important to assist developing countries in order to improve their agriculture through the reinforcement of investments in this area, he said. (MAP)
