Visiting elite Iraqi officials and intellectuals have expressed aspiration to enhance the bilateral relations with Kuwait on brotherly basis and fold permanently the chapter of bitter events of the past, Global Arab Network reports according to KUNA.

The eminent guests expressed the cordial and sincere sentiments during a meeting with Kuwaiti journalists and officials, held here late on Sunday.

Speaking on Monday on the occasion of the Iraqi delegation visit, Adnan Al-Rashed, the Director and Treasurer of the Kuwait Journalists Association, indicated at the establishment of the Council for Supporting the Kuwaiti-Iraqi Ties, tasked with tackling strains resulting from the 1990 flagrant aggression on Kuwait or any misunderstanding that may develop on some issues of joint concern.

The council, including 600 Iraqi figures and 13 Kuwaiti personalities, has been meeting regularly to discuss issues related to bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.

For his part, the secretary general of the council, Dr. Abdul Rahim Al-Rifaee, acknowledged that strains had shrouded the bilateral ties due to the aggression for years. "But talking about this subject now is non-beneficial," he said, noting that the two brotherly countries are seeking to establish good ties.

Indicating at some forms of current cooperation, he indicates that the Iraqi Television broadcasts Kuwaiti programs and news, hoping that the council may play a role at the cultural and media levels.

He expressed gratitude to the association for playing a role for enhancing the bilateral relations, congratulated the Kuwaiti people and leadership on the national days and wished the country further prosperity and progress under wise leadership of HH the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

For his part, Iraqi Cultural Undersecretary Dr. Fawzi Al-Atroushi expressed satisfaction at the exchange of visits by officials and personalities of the two countries and hoped that the two sides would establish "a fully integrated relationship." Iraqis feel bitter about the genocides, perpetrated by Saddam Hussein against Kuwait, he said, expressing apologies for these massacres.

Identical sentiments were echoed by the Iraqi MP, Jaafar Musawi, stressing that the aggression on Kuwait had been carried out by a regime, not by all Iraqis. "The Iraqi people were hostage of the tyrant Saddam," he said.

Other members of the delegation urged Kuwaiti entrepreneurs to launch ventures in Iraq.

The delegation also includes Abdel Abbas Al-Saedi, an eminent engineer, former MPs Abdul Wahed Al-Feeli and Sheikh Muqdad Al-Baghdadi and Salman Mohsen Salman, the head of the investment committee of the joint council.  (KUNA)
