Sudan, Syria Discuss Maritime Cooperation

Syria (Damascus) – The Syrian-Sudanese Maritime Committee on Monday discussed means of strengthening maritime relations and linking the Syrian and Sudanese ports with the aim of increasing trade exchange between the two countries.

The Committee reviewed the situation of ports in the two countries and means of increasing their productivity, where the Syrian side submitted draft proposals for cooperation projects between ports in the two countries to be studied by the Sudanese side.

The two sides agreed on establishing a joint committee to follow up on the activation of the Syrian-Sudanese maritime transport agreement.

The possibility of establishing a Syrian-Yemeni-Sudanese Company for maritime transport was also discussed, in addition to mechanisms required to encourage ship owners to transport goods between their ports in an attempt to develop inter-Arab trade. (SANA)
