Strategic partnership - Morocco, Equatorial Guinea promoting bilateral cooperation

Morocco (Rabat) - Morocco and Equatorial Guinea agreed to promote bilateral cooperation to the level of a strategic partnership.

The two parties reaffirmed, in a joint statement issued on Friday at the end of their bilateral fifth Joint Commission, their commitment to diversify bilateral relations and agreed to set up a follow-up committee to implement bilateral agreements.

With a view to further boost commercial exchange, the two parties placed special emphasis on the role of the private sector in bolstering the Moroccan-Equatoguinean cooperation notably in the fields of training, energy, agriculture and fisheries.

The two parties stressed the importance of setting up a business council to develop investments and partnerships between the Moroccan and Equatoguinean private sectors.

Concerning the situation in Africa, Morocco and Equatorial Guinea expressed “full commitment to the values of dialogue, consultation and compromise in peacefully settling disputes and conflicts in the continent.”

The two countries called for a further involvement of the international community in efforts led by African countries with a view to achieve peace and security in the continent.

In this respect, Equatorial Guinea hailed Morocco for its support for the international community’s actions to maintain peace in Africa.

The two parties also reiterated full commitment to the principles of international law and legality to defend and preserve the sovereignty and states’ territorial integrity.
According to the statement, Equatorial Guinea reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s bid for a Security Council seat in 2012.

Touching on regional cooperation, Equatorial Guinea commended “Morocco’s constant support for the actions aiming at promoting social and economic development of the African continent,” recalling the visits paid by HM King Mohammed VI to several African countries.

In this connection, Equatorial Guinea reaffirmed its willingness to back Morocco’s efforts towards achieving a free trade agreement with the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC).

The fifth Moroccan-Equatoguinean Joint Commission was held in Rabat under the co-chairmanship of the Kingdom's and Equatorial Guinea's foreign Ministers, Taib Fassi Fihri and Pastor Micha Ondo Bile respectively. (MAP)
