Jordan (Amman) - Representatives of Jordanian trade and industry sectors and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade CCPIT agreed to work jointly to take Sino-Jordanian economic ties to higher levels.

The business and industry leaders urged the Chinese side to increase Chinese investment in the Kingdom and "seize opportunities available in strategic sectors and extend bridges for cooperation", stressing a joint interest in cementing relations. In a meeting organised by the Jordan Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Jordan Investment Board, the two sides stressed the importance of raising the trade volume between Jordan and China and called for taking down barriers to the free flow of goods.

They also agreed that the Chinese private sector turn Jordan into a launch pad for entry to regional markets, namely Iraq. Jordan Chamber of Commerce President, Senator Nael Kabariti, said Jordanian-Chinese ties had been steadily improving with a significantly growing trade volume, noting a sizeable Chinese investment in the kingdom.

He lauded Beijing's economic support of Jordan through grants and soft loans. Kabariti urged the Chinese private sector to make use of the "precious" opportunities in the Kingdom, including mega energy, water, transport, healthcare, logistics, education, IT, tourism and transformation industry projects, coupled with a stable environment and modern legislation.

Jordan Chamber of Industry President, Senator Hatem Holwani, said that Jordan is seeking partnerships between domestic industries and their Chinese peers, expressing the hope that China would offer energy and other training expertise to help Jordan's industrial development. CCPIT Chairman Wan Jifei said China would forge stronger economic and investment ties with Jordan and seize opportunities in the Kingdom through agreements Beijing had signed with international economic blocs.
