Gulf foreign ministers call on halting Iran's interference in GCC

Global Arab Network - The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states urged Sunday evening the international community, notably the UN Security Council to adopt the necessary measures for stopping "the provocative interferences" by Iran in the domestic affairs of their countries.

"The flagrant interference pose grave security hazard to, and risk flaring up a sectarian strife in, the GCC countries," according to the final statement of the ministerial meeting held here on the conflict in Yemen.

The ministers stated unequivocal opposition to the claims on Bahrain, raised by Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in a letter to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon yesterday.

"The content of the letter shows how far Iran persists in meddling in the internal affairs of the GCC members through promulgation of groundless claims and lies, thus destabilizing the region. The Iranian approach violates the rules of the international law and neighborliness," the statement underlined.

"The GCC will not hesitate to adopt whatever measures and policies they deem necessary vis-a-vis the foreign interferences in their internal affairs while working to maintain neighborly ties with all countries of the region including Iran," it made clear.

The GCC ministers called on the Iranian regime to stop provocation and incitement against their countries through recruitment of anti-GCC agents, noting that the current policy of Iran aims to divert attention from the internal problems of the Islamic republic.

They condemned the recurrent attacks on the diplomatic mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Iran saying that such attacks are a blatant violation of the international diplomatic norms.
