Kuwait Setting a Nationwide Metro Network

Global Arab Network - Kuwait has made many strides towards setting a nationwide Metro network, Minister of Communications Mohammed Mohsen Al-Busairi said, noting that Kuwaiti network would be linked to a broader network that covers all Gulf Cooperation Council member states.

In his opening speech of the Kuwait Metro and Rail Conference Exhibition, Busairi said the metro project would help ease the traffic jams and would represent a quantum leap for Kuwait and GCC transportation sectors.

Busairi, who doubles as Minister of State for National Assembly, hailed the participation of a huge number of international transportation, environment and technology experts in the conference.

Kuwait will benefit from their scientific and practical experience as it is working to bring this great project to the light soon, he said.

The minister pointed out that all the Metro project-related studies would be conducted within a year and the project execution would take a few years.

The project would cover all residential and industrial areas in Kuwait, he added.

It would have great impacts on the development of the whole nation, Busairi said, expecting it would help promote touristic projects and solve the problem of overpopulation in many areas.

The state is very interested in executing this project, which would make it a center for ground transport in the region, as soon as possible, the minister said.

The steadily growth of vehicles in Kuwait has limited the capacity of roads network and badly impacted the smoothness of the traffic on these roads.
