Swiss_agency_releases_regional_cooperation_strategy_Jordan

Global Arab Network - The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) released its 2010-2014 cooperation strategy on addressing basic development challenges in Jordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

Swiss Ambassador to Jordan Andrea Reichlin said that the Swiss foreign policy is authorized to achieve peaceful coexistence between peoples of the world, promote respect for human rights and support the protection of the environment.

She added that launch of the strategy coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the agency, adding the 25-million Swiss Franc program reflects its long-term commitment to development goals and to adopting a new strategy in Jordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

The ambassador added that the Arab-Israeli conflict created more political and economic challenges in the area, noting the conflict led to a loss of many opportunities for human development. SDC Regional Director Rachel Bush highlighted key elements of the strategy which aim at ensuring decent living conditions for refugees, immigrants and marginalized people as well as for disaster-prone communities. She noted that the strategy works in accordance with national and regional priorities and within international frameworks. (Petra)
