Oman Honoring Ceremony for Participants at Ancient Ships Treasures Exhibition
Global Arab Network - A celebration was held at Dhofar University under the auspices of Sheikh Abdullah bin Saif al Mahrouqi, Deputy Governor of Dhofar to distribute the awards on the winning researches at the academic researches competition and distributing certificates on participants at ‘The Ancient Ships, Treasures from China to the Arabian Peninsula and Oman Great Journey Exhibition‘. The celebration was attended by Mohammed bin Yousef al Zarafi, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs and a number of officials at the governmental departments and teaching and administrative staff from Dhofar University and higher education institutions in the Governorate.

Pro. Bassam Ali Jubran, President of Dhofar University delivered a welcoming speech where he pointed out to the academic researches competition and the seminars hosted by the University on the sidelines of the exhibition.

After that, Sheikh, the Chief Guest distributed awards on the students who won the first place at the competition. He also honored a number of departments and individuals who contributed to the success of The  Ancient Ships, Treasures from China to the Arabian Peninsula and Oman Great Journey Exhibition‘.

The Ancient Ships, Treasures from China to the Arabian Peninsula and Oman Great Journey Exhibition was held at the Frankincense Land Museum at Al Baleed Park during the period from Feb 23rd to April 10th 2011. The exhibition received more than 10,000 visitors from different nationalities

The Exhibition, organized by National Geographic International and hosted by the Sultanate represented by the Foreign Ministry  in collaboration with the Heritage and Culture Ministry and Bait Al Zubair Museum is the first roaming exhibition organized by this organization in a bid to spread knowledge and enhance understanding and dialogue among civilizations and cultures.

The organization in collaboration with Dhofar University organized academic seminars on the marine history and the Omani relations with countries of the Indian subcontinent.

The exhibition included artifacts from Sohar, Qalhat, Bait Al Zubair Museum in Muscat, and East Asia Museum in Bath city in the United Kingdom (UK). The exhibition embodies the historic evidences for the Arab-Chinese relations, especially with the Arab Peninsula and Oman in particular during the period from 13th to the 16th century.

The exhibition included a special corner for "Muscat Jewel" ship and the details of its historic voyage from Muscat to Singapore during last year. (ONA)
