UAE: Mohammed bin Rashid inaugurates Arab Media Forum in Dubai

UAE_Mohammed_bin_Rashid_inaugurates_Arab_Media_Forum_in_Dubai
Global Arab Network - UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inaugurated the 10th edition of the Arab Media Forum at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Dubai today.

Also present at the opening of the two-day forum, which is being organised by the Dubai Press Club, were Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Dubai Deputy Ruler and Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

During her opening remarks at the ceremony, Executive Director of Dubai Press Club Maryam bint Fahad expressed her thanks and appreciation to Sheikh Mohammed for supporting the forum's initiatives and the media sector in the greater Arab world. She went on to welcome the forum's participants, who represent press and media outlets across the Middle East.

In a keynote address a delivered by Egyptian Minister of Culture Dr Emad Abu Ghazi, he conveyed the apologies of Egyptian Prime Minister Dr Essam Sharaf, who was scheduled to attend but cancelled because of the fragile political situation in his country.

In his speech he highlighted the longstanding relationship between Egypt and the UAE, recalling the late Sheikh Zayed's firm support for Egypt. The visiting culture minister also paid tribute to the efforts of Dubai Press Club, which has overseen the organisation of the event over the past ten years. After hailing the freedom of opinion that journalists enjoy in the UAE, Abu Ghazi stressed the importance of the media in bringing change and reform to the region.

Sheikh Mohammed and the assembled guests then viewed a documentary film showcasing the Arab Journalism Award and the Arab Media Forum, with particular focus given to their impact on Arab media.

Also present at the opening ceremony were Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Minister of Education Humaid Mohammed Obeid Al Qattami, Director of Dubai Ruler's Court Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shebani, Commander General of Dubai Police Lt. General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Director General of the Government of Dubai Media Office Ahmed Abdullah Al Sheikh and heads of press and media organisations from around the country.
