EU, Egypt cooperation to strengthen education and training
Global Arab Network - The European Union (EU) decided to extend assistance to training and education sectors in Egypt, Egypt's manpower minister said.

The EU's decision was reached on the sidelines of EU Training Foundation meetings in the Italian city of Turin last week, Dr. Ahmed Borae said.

The EU 2014/2020 technical assistance package will be offered to Egypt based on the success of the training and education plan, he said.

Borae said he agreed with immigration officials in the Italian Labor Ministry to introduce amendments to the Egyptian-Italian memorandum of understanding signed in the labor domain.

The new amendments, to be inked during Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil el-Arabi's visit to Italy next week, will settle the problem of the 76 Egyptians who were trained and were not sent to Italy for work, Boraei said.

The 76 Egyptians have passed the language and vocational skill tests but their travel to Italy was postponed due to the global financial crunch.

As for the seasonal Egyptian workers, Borae said they will be exempted from visa and work permit fees, the minister said.

Vocational training plan

A comprehensive plan for reviving the role of vocational training centers of the Ministry of Manpower and Immigration will be put into effect starting from September.

During a European Union conference organized by the European Training Foundation in Turin Minister of Manpower and Immigration Ahmed el-Borai said Egypt seeks promoting cooperation with the EU and the foundation, especially in fighting unemployment.

The ministry seeks regulating illegal immigration and preparing the labor market for absorbing Egyptian workers returning from conflict-ridden Libya, Borai said.
