Neighbourhood Policy Report EU remains Morocco's largest trading partner
Global Arab Network - The European Union (EU) remains the largest trading partner of Morocco, says the annual report on the implementation of the Neighborhood Policy, developed by the European Commission.

The report, which was published in Brussels, highlights the growth of trade between the EU and Morocco.

"Bilateral trade increased from 2009 to 2010, Moroccan exports to the EU grew by 17.6% while the EU exports to Morocco increased by 14.1%," it adds.

Regarding customs sector, the report recalls that Morocco "opened in January 2010 a customs observatory in charge of collecting and analyzing information on corruption to improve the integrity and regular monitoring of the situation."

As for the fight against piracy and counterfeiting, the pace of customs interventions at borders continue to grow, and following the signing of an administrative arrangement in 2009, cooperation between the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and Moroccan customs increased, the report notes.

It also highlights the participation of Morocco, in June 2010, in "Sirocco", a joint operation coordinated by the OLAF and conducted by the customs authorities of the EU and 11 partner countries of the south shore of the Mediterranean.

The European Union launched, late 2010, a 70 million Euro-program to support the 2nd mainstay of Morocco's Green Plan (PMV), according to the annual report on the implementation of the European Union neighborhood policy.

Issued on Thursday in Brussels, the report elaborated by the European Commission underlined that the second mainstay of Morocco's Green Plan targets solidarity-based agriculture in remote areas.

The 2010 report highlights the progress made at the institutional and legislative levels, as well as in terms of partners' mobilization and investment incentives.

The document also praised efforts made by the Agriculture Ministry regarding the programs of agricultural lands' development.

Determined to strengthen economic competition and diversity, the Moroccan government launched a strategy for the development of commercial logistics with an investment of 7 billion dollars by 2015, it added. (MAP)
