Global Arab Network — The stage is set for the start of Salalah Tourism Festival on July 1, said Shaikh Salim bin Ufait al Shanfari, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, who heads the main panel of the festival. The annual extravaganza will kick off under the auspices of Shaikh Mohammed bin Marhoon al Maamari, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.
Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, Al Shanfari said that this year's opening ceremony will witness various activities, including the opening of a month-long photography exhibition under the theme "Oman, the Land of Friendship and Peace”.
The exhibition will associate the Sultanate’s progress and prosperity to the climate of peace, security and safety that has prevailed in the country since the dawn of the blessed Renaissance led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, Al Shanfari added. He pointed out that the festival’s events will meet tastes of all age groups.

They include three musical evenings, the first of which will start on July 14. A number of singers from the Sultanate and abroad will take part in the concerts. Other activities include recreational and sports programmes and a consumer exhibition, said Al Shanfari, adding that religious and cultural seminars will be held at the Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Salalah and the theatre of the Directorate-General of Heritage and Culture in the Governorate of Dhofar on Sundays and Tuesdays.
Al Shanfari also pointed out that the festival will also witness Omani theatre shows and electrical games. This year's festival will focus on the concept of conserving heritage, events devoted to women, the typical programmes of the Cultural Village and Omani traditional dance arts, said Al Shanfari.
Speaking about roads, Al Shanfari said that the 23rd of July Street, ring roads and other roads will be opened for traffic before the beginning of the Khareef season to avoid traffic jams. He pointed out that the municipality has a plan to construct parking areas for trucks and buses to diminish instances of their travel inside the city of Salalah.
