Kuwait to produce one billion cubic feet of natural gas

Global Arab Network - The Deputy Managing Director for Exploration and Production Development in Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) Khalid Al-Sumaiti said that the company has plans to reach production of one billion cubic feet of natural gas by 2015-16, in addition to this year plans of 2011-12, reaching 600 million cubic feet and current production of 140 million cubic feet of natural gas.

Al-Sumaiti made his remarks, in a press statement, on the sideline of an award ceremony on safety and environment 14th hosted for the administrative department.

The official noted that small geographical area of the country was an obstacle for the exploration part which requires drilling to greater depths and use of modern technologies.

Al-Sumaiti said among the main challenges facing the company is the development of human resource capable of dealing with modern technologies.

The official added that currently the company is keen on exploring lightweight oil crude in the sea and natural gas.

Reducing gas burning rate
Chairman and Managing Director of the Kuwaiti Oil Company (KOC) Sami Al-Rushaid said Sunday that the fiscal year (2010-2011) was eventful of achievements in relation to health, safety and environment, including the KOC success in reducing the gas burning rate to 1.74 percent.

Al-Rushaid added, in an address delivered on his behalf by Khalid Al-Sumaiti, Deputy Managing Director for Exploration and Production Development, during a ceremony honoring the winners of the 14th session prize awarded by KOC Chairman on health, safety and environment, today that achievements also include embarking upon the implementation of the third phase for the secure behavior campaign, which lasts for three years and includes all KOC employees and contractors.

He made clear that among these achievements is the application of speed avoidance system on the basis of points, and inaugurating a natural reserve in cooperation with the voluntary work center along with opening the Abduliya environmental project, west of Kuwait, which included planting about 14,000 trees.

Al-Sumaiti noted that these achievements also include a campaign for cleaning west of Kuwait region, and removing about 12,000 tons of rubbish and relics, and organizing the "contractors' safety day," in the presence of more than 200 employees of the KOC subsidiary companies, and its contracting department.

He added that KOC is abiding by carrying out the rules embedded in the health, safety and environment system, as the company included the new manual of this system and distributed it to its various departments.

Al-Sumaiti also hailed the "enthusiasm," shown by KOC employees on the issues of health, safety, and environment as well as the initiatives launched by them to further consolidate KOC action in this field.

He also commended projects that won prizes, deeming them as "creative," that will help consolidate action in such important field, and boosting it as main part of the employees' culture and behavior.

Meanwhile, KOC Deputy Managing Director for Health, Safety, and Environment Mohammad Al-Fodari said that number of the projects applying for the prize this year amounted to 219, while there were many environmental initiatives launched and ranging between safe driving, risk management, and pollution reduction to other various relevant fields.
