AFRIMETS: Tunisia elected head of Intra-Africa Metrology System

Global Arab Network - The meeting of the 5th General Assembly of the Intra-Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS) was in Nairobi, Kenya, with on its agenda the election of a new president of the organisation to take over from the South African presidency which was assumed by the Director of the South African Metrology Institute "NMISA" and this since the creation of AFRIMETS during its constituent general assembly in July 2007 in Maryland, South Africa, with support from the German Metrology Institute, the African Union (AU) and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), Global Arab Network reports according to TAP.

The presidency of AFRIMETS was assigned to Director General of the Tunisian National Metrology Institute (ANM-TUNISIA) after the proposal of the executive committee of AFRIMETS, which met on July 19, 2011, and endorsing the proposal by vote of different constituent members of AFRIMETS.

AFRIMETS is the ultimate tool of co-operation between different African countries in areas related to legal metrology, industrial metrology and scientific metrology.

Constituent members of AFRIMETS are ordinary members (now only Sierra Leone is ordinary member) and sub-regional metrology organisations, including the Maghreb Metrology Network (MAGMET), made up of Arab Maghreb countries which signed the Memorandum of Understanding in July 2008, on the sidelines of the 2nd General Assembly of AFRIMETS.
